author's bio

Diane left the US to explore her African heritage in Liberia, where she lived from 1979-1984, and created a successful business while also serving as a midwife and experiencing the 1980 coup d'etat. Free Soil, a work of fiction and Diane’s first novel was borne from these experiences.

It examines part of the human experience—the land, people, and lifestyle—Diane knew there. Through Free Soil, she brings to light, with integrity, the underside of layered and historical class division and oppression.

During Diane’s personal journey in Liberia, she first heard her inner voice, a voice of surprising strength. A passion emerged to help others discover the power of their inner voice, to believe what they hear, and to galvanize their God-given strengths--to move beyond fear in pursuit of their true calling.

Diane is affectionately known as Thembi, which is derived from the Xhosa of South Africa and means 'to trust.' It describes the integrity and authenticity with which she chooses to live her life. In addition to writing and serving as a business leader, Diane travels extensively sharing her journey and empowering others to pursue their dreams.
